Had to be put down on 5/30- a cascade of bad events
Sweet baby didn’t have a chance...
She was born over 2 weeks ahead of the 340 average gestation. There was meconium in the amnion when Chee Chee’s water broke, a sign of fetal distress. Then it was a red bag delivery. The placenta looked infected and ugly and of course, it was retained for 12 hours by Chee Chee, and finally extracted. The filly was slow to nurse, but got the hang of it, even with four very soft pasterns. I then suspected NI after seeing her urinate dark brown and I thought she looked jaundiced. Off to Mid Atlantic Equine Clinic in NJ where Dr. Rodney Belgrave did the best he could. Further complications were a low IgG, and some screwed up blood values. She needed assistance getting up every hour and she took a turn for the worse. The decision was made to put her down. Poor baby...
