A tragic loss...
At 6 days of age, Lhittle Debbie was found out in the pasture, dead. She had been normal and playing all day, with no signs of anything wrong. Upon autopsy, it was discovered that she had an abdominal bleed due to a lacerated liver. I am guessing that Whichy was a little too hard in pawing her to get up when another mare approached. I had just commented on this behavior the day before. Whichy was a first time mom who was a bit aggressive in her worry about her foal... I am heartbroken. I had waited nearly three years for this filly.
Birth report: Whichy did an efficient job with her first foal, giving birth quickly at 10 pm. I never did get to see the end of the movie I was watching...
Lhittle Debbie is named after the snack cakes- (OK, I know it is a stretch for the theme of candy and confection, but L names were tough!). She is just what I ordered. She is pretty (mom could be more feminine), tall, and I hope she shows all the elasticity in her movement that Whichy has. I'll let you know when we turn her out for the first time.
