Another EMC for 2008- one of 5 (out of 5 mares tested and inspected)
Rheceptionist was taken to the Hedgeland inspection in Waterford, Va on Oct. 4, 2008. She received an overall 7.33 with a 9 for head, and 8's for neck, typiness and femininity, impulsion and elasticity and walk. Unfortunately, she had pulled a muscle over her right point of the buttocks and she had been ever so slightly sore for a few weeks prior to the MPT. We just kept her in light work, hoping for the best. After putting on a show of her gaits in the ring the evening before the actual test, I was especially worried. Unfortunately, there was nothing left in the tank for the actual MPT, and her scores reflected this. She squeeked by with an overall 7.0 as a score, making her eligable for EMC status by the skin of her teeth. It is always so stressful for these really young mares to travel 3-4 hours in their first trailer trip, have their first overnight experience in a strange stall and then have to perform for their very first event off of our farm. I was proud she could hold it together, frankly. She was a bit crabby and this was reflected in her rideability score of 6.5- definately not where she normally would have been scored. She received and 8 for the walk and a 7.5 for the jumping. The following day, she placed second in the three year old mares class at the MAHB mare show. She was tired, but I had to support the show- I was show secretary and entries were light. Now all she has to do is produce a nice foal by Welcome, so she has had plenty of time to relax and recover from a very long weekend! There were horrible photos taken at the event, so I have nothing to show under saddle or over fences. The conformation shots are ones I took after the Mare Show.
Whallis had a dark brown filly (4/10)- absolutely no white! I think this is this first absolutely unmarked baby I have ever had in 25 years. She was there to greet me - I just got there right after she was born. We have therefore named her Rheceptionist, Phyllis for short (Jim knew a Receptionist at work named Phyllis).
Royal Prince achieved great success in 2004 with only four competitions in his calendar year. He made his official debut at the Morven Park Spring Show, where he won the FEI Young Horse 5-year old test with an overall score of 8.5. He raised the bar for himself at his next competition, the East Coast Selection Trials for the FEI World Championships for Young Horses. At this competition held over Memorial Day weekend, Royal Prince won a warm-up round with a 9.2, then wowed the selection committee in the Finals to earn an overall score of 9.82. Rumors ran around the country about this big score, but in FEI-O judge Linda Zangs words, This is one of the loveliest horses Ive seen in my life, ever. The judges scored Royal Princes performance as follows: trot 9.8, walk 10, canter 9.6, submissiveness 9.8, overall impression 9.9. With such strong support from the judges, Royal Prince and his rider Susanne Owen Hassler set off for Europe with hope and confidence.
The 2004 FEI World Championships for Young Horses were held in Verden, Germany during the weekend of July 9-11. In the preliminary round of competition, Royal Prince demonstrated his keen focus and commitment. He produced a quality performance that earned 5th place among the worlds top stallions and riders! With an overall score of 8.92, Royal Prince and Susanne were secured a place in the highly competitive Finals, held on Sunday. Their performance in front of thousands in the packed Verden stadium made a bit of American history, that memorable rainy Sunday in July, when Royal Prince produced a strong performance once again, earning an overall score of 8.84 and a final standing of 4th place in the World!
Rheceptionist is a keeper for the RSF broodmare band.
