As beautiful under saddle as I had imagined she would become
Lhoretta is going under saddle and she is one of those horses who moves great in hand, but then improves so much more under saddle.
Video under saddle:
Her gaits under saddle are amazing. In August 2009, she was presented to the GOV and placed in their main mare book with a score of 7.25. She received 8 for general impression, and 7.5's for breed and sex type, and the trot.
A third generation filly to keep for my breeding program. Lhoretta is a product of a lot of years of breeding up in quality. Her grandmother was the first Hanoverian mare that I bought (my very first HN mare, Amazone, was given to me). I rode her and she patiently learned dressage along with me. I had ridden hunters and then jumpers before that. Whichita and Rhococo are two mares that I could finally keep for my self. (I had to sell a bunch of really good fillies to keep going and pay bills in the beginning!) Keeping Lhoretta is partly sentimental, but I think she is also a real asset with her beauty and her correct conformation, plus very good movement.
Foaling report: A very tall, leggy black filly. Well, beware if you are invited to dinner at the Swanson house during foaling season. Our friends, Bob and Debbie were here for a relaxing evening dinner. I told them to be prepared, there may be a foal born soon. We got through the appetizer and salad courses and I had just started cooking the entree when the alarm went off. Chita was foaling. It was a thrill for them (and a little gross) to see a baby being born. It was a first for them both (other than their own children). They now consider themselves honorary godparents. Lhoretta cooperated fully by standing and nursing quickly. She is a beauty. I am thrilled with this foal and Jim and I were happy to be able to share this experience with friends. We skipped dinner after it was all over and celebrated with dessert- strawberry shortcake with lots of whipped cream. I love foaling season!!!!
SOLD!Congrats to Bob and Theresa!
