a sad loss...

Read Greg's comments below. Our sympathies to Greg and his family.

A really leggy one- too late- already snatched up by a buyer! See the new conformation photo taken 9/06. What a nice filly! This is a really nice cross! I had thought this combination would be perfect when Dhominica was a foal at the German Hanoverian foal auction. I purchased Dhominica specifically to breed to Gold Luck at that time. This is an ideal cross! Birth report: Dhominica had a very tall chestnut filly! All went well. She is being a very good first-time mom. Ghretchen is leggy and tall and so far seems to be a really correct, good mover. We used Dhominica in a demonstration of conformation judging for a group from the Delaware Valley College Equine Studies program and she was a star- posing and running around mom with lots of confidence.

Mo, Ghretchen did not recover from her injury. (Two days before Greg picked her up to bring her to his home, Ghretchen and Gholda got loose and Ghretchen panicked. She tried jumping over the fence to join her friends. She flipped over the fence and landed hard on her side.) After two visits by Quakertown Vet. clinic and one set of inconclusive x-rays they recommended we take her to New Bolton Center yesterday. They took x-rays in a standing position but couldn't find the problem. Today they took more x-rays under anestia. The x-rays confirmed the worst in that she fractured her pelvis. I made the tough decision this morning to have her put down. I'm not too good. I was already getting attached to her after only two weeks. The worst part is that I have a two year old at home calling his toy horse Gretchen. Horses are a tough hobby, but I hadn't bargained on this. Greg
